Known quite literally as the only ‘abnormal’ dry cleaner in Ballito, Dry and Clean Ballito not only strives for quality service but is changing the way the dry cleaning industry operates locally.
Open for nearly a year now, the environmentally friendly non-traditional dry-cleaning business continues to grow as word of its quality service spreads.
From starting as a small business with 2 employees, Dry and Clean Ballito has grown to a staff compliment of 8, with owner Roy Travers adding that business has been good.
But what does he put his success down to?
The secret is in the method of what is still today commonly being referred to as ‘dry cleaning’, even though this isn’t what Roy does.
Instead, otherwise becoming better known today as ‘wet cleaning’, Roy uses modern methods and technologies to cut out the negative effects standard dry cleaning has on clothes and other fabrics.
“Not only is typical dry cleaning using solvents such as perchloroethylene which are unfriendly to the environment having been proven to have carcinogenic effects, it is becoming obsolete, ” he says.
And considering staff work with these chemicals daily, they too are exposed to the dangers of perchloroethylene, says Roy.
“Wet cleaning, unlike dry cleaning – which uses petroleum-based chemicals – is not harmful to the natural fibres or colours of clothes.”
Wondering why he used ‘Dry and Clean’ in his business name, Roy explained that most people know little about the changing industry and its rapidly advancing cleaning methods.
Using environmentally friendly methods, clothes come out with fabrics unaffected, a process which also aids in restoring natural vibrancy in clothes.
“From the moment we receive your washing, it is handled with the utmost care and precision.”
To top it off, the process of wet cleaning is also more affordable by nature.
