Police kick-started festive season operations by arresting more than 100 people for various crimes in KwaDukuza last week.
Saps and KwaDukuza municipality crime prevention held a two-day operation in KwaDukuza and surrounding areas from Thursday until early hours of Saturday morning.
“Roadblocks, stop and searches as well as suspects raids were conducted to arrest offenders wanted for different crimes and to deal with those who are failing to adhere to the road traffic act as well as municipal by-laws.
People with cases such as robbery, attempted murder, kidnapping, carjacking, rape, possession of suspected stolen property as well as illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition were arrested,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker.
Four suspects were arrested for rape while 10 people were arrested for being in the country illegally.
Several liquor outlets were issued with fines for not complying with the liquor act while 22 were arrested for dealing in liquor without a licence.
Police seized 20 dangerous weapons during the operation.
Four people were arrested for being in possession of drugs with police seizing dagga and rock cocaine.
