A human skeleton was found under some bushes on Van Rova Road in Tongaat on Monday.
According to provincial police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala the remains was dressed in beige pants, blue shirt and sandals.
“A pink backpack was found next to the remains. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated by Tongaat SAPS,” said Gwala.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram the remains were first discovered on Saturday by a 13-year-old boy walking his dog.
“As they neared a bush along the roadside the dog began barking and removed a bone which appeared to be from a human arm.
“Upon investigation, the boy discovered the remains but he left without informing anyone of his discovery.”
